Graphing 101:

Call up the dataset that you want to view:

You will then get the following:

If you select the plot tab   at the bottom you will get the default plot, which may (or may not) be what you want.  If not, click on one of the two Graphing icons at the top to teach this dataset what you want:

The left one is for bar charts (Candles, Bollinger, etc), and the right one is for Point & Figure.  If you select the bar chart format, you will be presented with a green palate for choosing your preferences.  Your first decision is how many panes.  I chose 2 panes, split 67 33.  The following is how I chose to chart the data in CLZ4:

The top pane:

The bottom pane:

Once you have chosen, click on , to see your handiwork.  If it’s not to your liking, click on the Graph Wizard icon again, and make the modifications.  Once you have it right, SAVE the dataset under the name you wish.  From now on (unless changed), this dataset will always have this plot format as its default, which you can see by simply clicking on the plot tab at the bottom of the dataset.  By the way, you can save additional plots (which will create additional tabs), and they will also be continually available.

If you like this format, then , giving it a plottype name.  That way, you can always retrieve it for use with other datasets.

Should you wish to see a Point & Figure chart, just click on that icon .  The most critical item to specify is whether your P&F chart will be based on high/low data or close-only data.

In the open box you will specify 2 3 for high/low or 4 0 for close-only.  These choices represent column numbers of your dataset, so if you are doing a P&F chart of a 1-column dataset; you would have to enter 1 0.  Then to see the actual chart, .

We recommend viewing the default, and then changing the parameters to fit your needs.

If you then save the dataset, you will add a default P&F chart tab to the dataset, which will continually be available.

Please understand that this is simply an introduction to charting in Financial Data Calculator.  FDC has a tremendous variety of ways to display data.  For example, if you like to view slideshows of charts, you should request our description “Creating a Daily Macro Run”.  With a simple click of the mouse you can easily use our List Viewer to review your “daily run”.

We also have unique functionality that enables you to superimpose P&F information on a bar chart, and compare their trading results.  Please feel free to ask for the information describing that facility.
