What if I get an install problem?

Answer. Each PC has different authorizations, dictated by the user. That's usually the first place to look with regard to an install problem. It is also good idea to temporarily disable your virus protection software before installing.

Do I have to disable my firewall?

Answer. That depends on your firewall. Most likely you will have to authorize permission to circumvent the firewall in part.

What if I forget my password?

Answer. We keep track of passwords. Send us an email request, and we'll supply you with your password.

Can I get a second password for my second PC?

Answer. We will provide two passwords to a purchaser. If you later buy a new computer, we'll even send you another password. We want our customers to be happy. We just don't want them to give away copies to their 2,000 best friends. FDC is priced low in the hopes that people will pay a reasonable price for a legitimate copy.

Can I purchase Financial Data Calculator by mail?

Answer. We will send you our latest CD-ROM, from which you can install a copy of the software. However since we upgrade the software so frequently, any CD-installed version will have to be upgraded, and those upgrades are web-based.

How do I know if I am running the latest version?

Answer. Just click the “Check for Updates” button on the Menu line. A dialog box will advise you if an upgrade is available for download. Upgrades within a given product are free.

What do I do about my saved files if I have to reinstall FDC?

Answer. Create a temporary folder and copy all of your valued files into it. These should probably include the data, macros, plots, trades, and lists subfolders of the current FDC main folder. Then ninstall FDC using Windows control panel, reinstall FDC, and then copy your files back.

What if I need specific data not included with FDC?

Answer. The data we provide with FDC is just enough of a sample to let the user do the demos. If you are going to trade the markets, you are going to need to acquire timely data. FDC has multiple ways to import data. If that data is on equities, indicies or exchange traded funds, they are available for free from Yahoo! Finance, and FDC comes equipped with an the ability to do that for you automatically. If you need futures price data, you will be obliged to pay for the data, as the exchanges control the process and make money selling their own data. A very good source for end-of-day futures data is www.primate.com . FDC gives you the ability to automatically update Primate data. Additionally, Primate provides data subscriptions to FDC users for $19.95 per month.

How can I copy data from an Internet website to FDC?

Answer. Just copy the data and click on FDC's Clipboard. The Clipboard will accept and format most data formats. The pasted data will be in a temporary dataset which you can use and save as you wish.

Do the promoters of FDC provide seminars?

Answer. We have only made appearances when requested. However our CD-ROM has many multi-media demos that provide instruction, along with an audio coach. We also give out our telephone number, and are receptive to any user with a difficulty.

When I log onto FDC, it just sits there. Shouldn't it do something?

Answer. When you log onto Word® or Excel®, they just “sit there” also. With FDC you have an amazingly powerful tool specifically tailored to assist you in researching and trading investments. It will help you answer any question you have on the topic. But you have to supply the questions. We have a users website www.fdcusers.com , and our CD-ROM implements our "See it, Try it, Use it" approach to learning the software - first watch things done in the multimedia tours, then try things yourself with the aid of the "Audio Coach", and finally start out on your own with the help of many sample command sets and macros.

Does FDC generate performance reports?

Answer. Yes, the FDC Trade System Wizard provides a detailed trading summary.

Can I build equity curves from different systems trading in different markets?

Answer. Yes.

How do I plot a price chart with an indicator?

Answer. In many cases, a dataset comes with an appropriate plot arrangement , all you have to do is click on the default plot tab at the bottom of a dataset to see it. If you compute new datasets, FDC will default to plotting all the fields as line charts. It's easy to change the default by going to the Graphing Wizard and selecting a pre-programmed plot type, or making one of your own choosing, and saving that as the default.
